Search for the HiAnime app today and things become confusing very quickly.
You may find apps carrying the HiAnime name on Google Play. Another appears in Apple's App Store. Other websites offer something called a “HiAnime APK” and claim it can be installed directly on Android. But these results are not necessarily the same product. The most important thing to know is that the original HiAnime streaming service went offline on March 13, 2026. Current apps or websites using the HiAnime name should therefore not automatically be treated as the official continuation of that service. Here is what you need to know before installing anything.
Is There an Official HiAnime App? The Short Answer
As of August 2026, I could not verify a current mobile app that is clearly operated by the original HiAnime streaming service. Apps using the HiAnime name do exist. However, the current listings we reviewed are published by separate developers and describe themselves primarily as anime discovery, information or trailer apps.

The NABSPE Google Play listing has more than 50,000 downloads, but its description focuses on browsing titles and watching official trailers. The Lolo LLC app goes even further and explicitly says it does not stream or host anime episodes. Apple's current listing similarly says that it does not provide full anime streaming. So seeing “HiAnime” in an app's title does not, by itself, establish that it is the mobile version of the old HiAnime website.
What Happened to the Original HiAnime?
Understanding the history makes today's search results much easier to understand.
HiAnime was connected to a sequence of well-known anime streaming brands.
The operation previously used the Zoro.to name, later became AniWatch, and adopted the HiAnime branding in 2024. HiAnime eventually became one of the internet's largest unauthorized anime streaming platforms. That changed in March 2026.
HiAnime Went Offline on March 13, 2026
On March 13, visitors to HiAnime's main domains encountered a farewell message instead of the normal streaming service. TorrentFreak reported that the original domains displayed a message saying it was time to say goodbye. The service did not subsequently return to its previous public operation. The story continued in July 2026, when authorities in Vietnam charged seven suspects who were alleged to have operated a network of more than 100 piracy sites that included HiAnime. That history matters when evaluating an app claiming to be “HiAnime” today.
What Are the “HiAnime” Apps on Google Play?
At least two prominent Android apps have recently appeared in Google Play results using the HiAnime keyword. Neither should automatically be confused with the original streaming website.
HiAnime - Anime TV
This app is published by NABSPE. Its Google Play page describes features including:
- anime discovery
- official trailers
- title browsing
- favorites
The page currently shows more than 50,000 downloads. More importantly, reviews show a gap between what some users expected and what the app actually offered. Several reviewers complained that selecting an anime led to trailers instead of full episodes. That does not necessarily mean anything is technically wrong with the app. Its own description focuses on trailers rather than promising full episode streaming.
HiAnime - Anime
A second Google Play listing is published by Lolo LLC.
It focuses on:
- anime discovery
- title details
- episode information
- recommendations
- seasonal updates
- trailers
Its description specifically states that the app does not stream or host anime episodes.
It is therefore better understood as an anime information or discovery app than as a replacement for the former HiAnime streaming site.
Is There a HiAnime App for iPhone?
Searching Apple's App Store can produce a listing titled “hianime animekai : anime plus.”
It is published by Lea Jenniskens, not by an entity identified as the former HiAnime streaming operation. According to its App Store description, the app provides features including anime release information, reminders, wallpapers and publicly available trailers. It explicitly says that it does not provide full anime streaming.
That distinction is important. If your goal is simply to follow anime releases or discover shows, the functionality may still be useful. If your goal is to install the old HiAnime streaming service on an iPhone, however, this listing should not be assumed to be that service simply because “hianime” appears in its title.
What About HiAnime APK Downloads?
Android applications can also be distributed as APK files outside Google Play.
APK simply stands for Android Package Kit. It is the file format Android uses for installing applications. The problem is not that every APK is automatically dangerous. The problem is verification. Several websites currently offer files described as the “HiAnime APK.” One ranking page, for example, claims to provide a HiAnime streaming APK and instructs visitors to install it manually because it is unavailable through Google Play.
The page provides little independent evidence establishing that the file comes from the operators of the original HiAnime service. Another page ranking around the topic calls its Android application a third-party APK rather than an official Play Store release.
That is why users should be cautious about treating an APK as official based only on its filename, icon or website branding.
Why Does the HiAnime App Only Show Trailers?
This is one of the easiest HiAnime app problems to explain.
You may simply have installed an app that was designed to show trailers rather than full episodes. The current Lolo LLC Google Play listing explicitly describes itself as an anime information and trailer service. The Apple listing also states that it does not provide complete anime streaming.
Reviews on another Google Play listing show users making the same discovery after installation: they expected full episodes but encountered trailers instead.
So before troubleshooting your internet connection or reinstalling the app, check its official store description. The app may be working exactly as designed.
Is the HiAnime App Safe?
There is no single answer because there is no single current “HiAnime app.”
You need to evaluate the exact app you are considering. An application appearing in Google Play or Apple's App Store has gone through the marketplace's distribution process, but app-store availability does not prove that an app belongs to a particular brand. The developer name matters. For example, current search results show HiAnime-named apps published by NABSPE, Lolo LLC and Lea Jenniskens.
Check These Things Before Installing
Before installing an anime app, particularly one using the name of a discontinued service, check:
- Developer: Does the publisher match the organization you expect?
- Description: Does the app actually offer the feature you want?
- Permissions: Does it request access that seems unnecessary?
- Privacy information: What data does the developer say it collects or shares?
- Recent reviews: Are users consistently reporting misleading functionality or excessive advertising?
- Update history: Is the application still actively maintained?
- Source: Are you installing it from a recognized marketplace or an unknown APK website?
Be especially careful when a site asks you to disable security protections or install an APK whose origin you cannot verify.
Was the Original HiAnime Legal?
The original HiAnime operation was widely identified as an unauthorized streaming service rather than a licensed anime distributor. It faced substantial anti-piracy scrutiny before its shutdown. U.S. government reporting on notorious piracy markets also included HiAnime, and reporting surrounding the July 2026 enforcement action described it as part of a major alleged piracy network.
The legal consequences of watching unauthorized streams can differ by country, so the rules affecting an individual viewer depend on local law.
The simpler copyright point is that distributing copyrighted anime without permission from the relevant rights holders is not equivalent to operating a licensed streaming service.
Why Is My HiAnime App Not Working?
Several different situations can produce this problem.
You Are Trying to Access the Old HiAnime Service
The original HiAnime service went offline in March 2026. If an older shortcut, app wrapper or tool relied on its previous infrastructure, that can explain why it no longer works.
You Installed an Anime Discovery App
Some apps carrying the HiAnime keyword provide information and trailers rather than complete episodes. Nothing may actually be broken.
You Had an Older Android App
AppBrain documents one Android app called “hianime” that was removed from Google Play on April 9, 2026. The listing had more than 100,000 downloads but a low user rating, and its functionality centered heavily on anime discovery and trailers.
You Installed a Third-Party APK
If you installed an APK from an independent website, the app may have no connection to either the original HiAnime service or current store listings.
In that situation, troubleshooting becomes difficult because the developer, update source and infrastructure may be unclear.
Safer Ways to Watch Anime on Mobile
If your real goal is simply to watch anime conveniently on your phone, licensed streaming services are easier to verify. Depending on your country, options can include:
- Crunchyroll for an anime-focused catalog
- Netflix for licensed anime and original productions
- Amazon Prime Video for selected anime titles
- Hulu in markets where the service is available
- other licensed local streaming platforms
Libraries vary significantly by region because anime licensing rights are often country-specific. The important difference is that established licensed services have clearly identifiable publishers, official apps and documented subscription or advertising models.
